UK: A bridge that will carry the future Luton DART peoplemover over the A1081 road has been slid into place by contractor VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier.
The 80 m long, 1 000 tonne structure had been assembled off-site over eight months, and was then moved around 900 m to its final location during a weekend road closure. ‘This was an especially challenging project milestone to reach and required a huge collaborative effort between all parties’, said Project Director Phil Hobson, pointing to the collaboration between VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier, London Luton Airport Ltd and Luton Council.
Due to open in 2021, the 2·1 km Luton DART peoplemover will link Luton Airport Parkway station with the airport terminal. The double-shuttle, fully-automated cable-driven peoplemover is to be supplied by Doppelmayr Cable Car UK Ltd.
