UK: Transport for London has appointed Morgan Sindall Infrastructure as main works contractor for the construction of a second entrance at London Overground’s Surrey Quays station.
This will provide more direct access to nearby developments and the existing shopping centre, with a ‘spacious’ ticket hall and a gateline that is expected to be used by 60% of station users, easing congestion at the busiest times.
A new bridge will relieve the existing narrow staircases, with lifts for step-free access.
Enabling works are expected to begin in summer 2023, with main works starting by the end of the year for completion in 2026.
The station improvements announced on February 2 form part of a wider programme of work funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities and British Land to unlock the development of 14 000 homes.
