UK: CEO of Worldline UK & Europe James Bain has been appointed as Chair of the Rail Supply Group. He succeeds Atkins President Philip Hoare, who has decided to step down after four years chairing RSG.
Bain has worked in the rail industry for more than 23 years, with roles at Virgin Trains, Arriva CrossCountry and Worldline. He has worked closely with the Rail Delivery Group, Rail Safety & Standards Board, Network Rail, train operators, the Department for Transport and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, and has been a member of the RSG Council since 2018, leading its work on data and mobility.
Announcing the appointment on July 7, RSG said it is focusing on five priorities:
- delivering the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail;
- increasing customer revenues;
- addressing unit costs and inflation;
- increasing strategic supply chain resilience;
- sustainability and decarbonisation.
Bain said he would ensure RSG ‘plays a central part in the future of the railway through the creation and implementation of Great British Railways’.
Anna Ince continues as RSG Vice-Chair.
