UK: Leasing company Eversholt Rail has awarded Brodie Engineering a ‘multimillion pound’ contract for the time-based overhaul of its fleet of 21 Class 318 electric multiple-units operated by ScotRail.
This includes the safety critical overhaul of components including traction equipment, doors and heating and ventilation systems, as well as reliverying the exterior.
‘This extensive overhaul of our fleet of Class 318 trains will greatly enhance the reliability and comfort we already provide customers travelling around the west central Scotland area’, said ScotRail Engineering Director Syeda Ghufran when the contract was announced on May 25.
The work is scheduled to start in November, following on from a similar project covering Class 320 EMUs which is being undertaken at Brodie Engineering’s Bonnyton Works.
The latest contract ‘reaffirms the collaborative working relationship that we have developed with Eversholt Rail over several years’, said Brodie Engineering Managing Director Gerry Hilferty. ‘This contract will retain jobs in East Ayrshire and provides us with a firm foundation to build upon, following our recent acquisition of neighbouring Caledonia Works.’
