UK: Network Rail has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract to supply signalling and control equipment for the Northumberland Line project to reintroduce passenger services on the freight line between Newcastle and Ashington from 2024.
The contract scope includes signalling, telecoms and control equipment, power supply upgrades, installation of workstations at the Tyneside IECC, and the equipping of eight level crossings with a mix of CCTV and obstacle detection technologies.
Siemens Mobility will supply its ‘modular plus’ signalling technology from its Chippenham plant, while the project will be managed from its York office. ‘By using innovative technology, we can transform lines and passenger journeys up and down the country quickly and cost-effectively’, said Managing Director, Rail Infrastructure, Rob Morris on February 15.
