UK: City & Guilds’ railway infrastructure training subsidiary Intertrain has launched a small plant training programme which combines hands-on and online learning.

The online elements would have previously been delivered in a classroom, and the new approach reduces learning hours by around 30% and lowers travel costs.

Practical training is provided at several Intertrain centres, railway and worksites, giving participants greater flexibility to fit training around their workloads.

All modules and assessments are designed to meet Network Rail training standards. The core competence modules combine shared knowledge required across multiple tools, alongside key health and safety and legislation content, and carry a five-year validation with trainees receiving a City & Guilds digital credential.

‘Intertrain is delighted to announce the launch of the first industry Small Plant blended learning programme’, said Managing Director Alex Pond on October 7. ‘The first of its kind, blended learning aims to offer efficiencies to the industry while streamlining quality and practicality at all levels. Delegates have the flexibility to learn at their own pace, fitting around both business and personal commitments.’

Intertrain and City & Guilds Group plan to expand their portfolio of training programmes to include further railway technical and health & safety disciplines.
