UK: More than 50 companies and organisations representing many different aspects of the UK rail sector have been shortlisted for the 22nd Rail Business Awards. The winners will be revealed at a gala dinner at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel on February 27 2020.
With a record number of entries this year, the RBA’s independent judging panel was faced with a challenging task selecting the best of the best. Finalists for 16 of the 19 categories were announced on November 14, covering a range of awards from operations and customer service through technical innovation and engineering to marketing, diversity and sustainability. Individual contributions are also recognised, with awards for Young Professional and Rail Team of the Year.
Network Rail leads the pack this year, with six shortlisted entries including the recently introduced Asset Management & Maintenance Excellence award. The infrastructure manager is slightly ahead of Siemens Mobility, with five shortlisted entries and LNER and Govia Thameslink Railway with four each.
Currently holding the most awards from the past 21 years, Great Western Railway is back in contention for Education & Training Excellence and Diversity in Rail, as well as Innovation of the Year. Other train operators showing strongly include ScotRail, Greater Anglia, Heathrow Express and South Western Railway, as well as Northern Ireland’s Translink and KeolisAmey Docklands.
Rail freight operators are also well represented, with DB Cargo, Direct Rail Services, Freightliner and GB Railfreight all on the shortlist, along with iPort Rail and Victa Railfreight.
