UK: Spanish rolling stock manufacturer Talgo has appointed its UK & Ireland representative Jon Veitch as Managing Director of Talgo UK, and has signed a framework agreement with Scottish Enterprise and Transport Scotland for the establishment of a manufacturing plant at Longannet in Fife should it win contracts in the UK.
Scottish Enterprise director Paul Lewis said the proposed Talgo plant, which would supply the UK and potentially export to emerging overseas markets, ‘would deliver 1 000 direct jobs and a host of supply chain opportunities for companies in Scotland’
Veitch said ‘Talgo UK has promised to be different, by adopting an “all Britain” strategy and “true manufacturing”’, adding that ‘Talgo UK’s aim to attract and develop new engineering talent has a particular resonance for me, as I started my career as an engineering apprentice’.
