UK: Network Rail is seeking information from telecoms suppliers to enable it assess the viability of awarding a concession for the provision of uninterrupted high-speed cellular internet and mobile reception between Wrexham and Holyhead.
The infrastructure manager envisages that improved connectivity could be achieved at no cost to the taxpayer, with revenue sharing once the telecoms company has made a return on its investment. It is also seeking industry feedback on other commercial models.
Deployment in North Wales is intended as a pilot for a proposed wider roll-out in other locations where a business case can be made.
