A £1·3m upgrade of the small station at Barrow Haven in North Lincolnshire was officially completed on November 10. The work included construction of a 60 m replacement platform with tactile paving, and East Midlands Railway contributed a further £26 000 for a new waiting shelter, cycle racks, signage and solar-powered help point.
ScotRail has signed to Digital Technology Education Charter, which aims to bring together industry and academia to raise the profile of computer science amongst young people. The operator explained that the rail industry offered a vast range of digital skills-based roles, including application development, data analysis and cybersecurity.
Transport for Wales has opened a training centre at One City Place in Chester where 64 drivers and 56 conductors will be trained to operate CAF Class 197 DMUs over the next year. The facility will also act as a training hub for station, ticket office dispatching and depot staff.
Founder Karl Watts has stepped down as Group President of Rail Operations (UK) Ltd. He remains a shareholder, and will support the company in a non-executive capacity.
Transport for the North has announced the appointment of interim Finance Director Paul Kelly as Finance Director from December 14. Katie Day will become Strategy, Policy & Communications Director by February 2023, joining from the Office for Nuclear Regulation where she is Director of Policy & Communications.
Michael Roberts has been appointed as the next CEO of London TravelWatch, succeeding interim CEO Joanna Davidson in January. His previous roles include Director-General of the Rail Delivery Group, Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies and a director at the CBI.
