UK: VolkerRail has been awarded a contract to undertake track renewals at DP World’s London Gateway port.
Over 20% of London Gateway’s traffic moves by rail, with more than 50 trains per week.
VolkerRail is to replace up to 700 m of track and a switch and crossing unit, and refurbish a second switch and crossing unit.
Work is to begin in the new year and will be carried out over a series of mid-week working and core possessions to minimise disruption. Completion is planned by next summer.
‘DP world is a new client, and we are excited to be given the opportunity to enhance their network’, said Sam Allen, General Manager of VolkerRail’s metro and rail projects division, on December 5.
‘In addition to track installation, this project demonstrates VolkerRail Specialist Business’ ability to work collaboratively, utilising our in-house capabilities - signalling, power, plant and welding.’
