CHINA: Alstom Transport, CNR Corp and Shanghai Electric Group have signed a memorandum agreeing to form a strategic partnership for the joint development of mass transit products, Alstom announced on September 13.
Collaboration will accelerate the development of traction systems and complete rolling stock, with the long -term goal of giving the existing Shanghai Alstom Transport Co and Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co joint ventures the ability to design, build and commercialise urban transit products for the Chinese and targeted export markets.
'We are committed to succeed in this competitive market by relying on our manufacturing footprint in the country and building the right partnerships', said President of Alstom Transport Philippe Mellier.
The French company said its presence in China dates to 1958, and now includes five joint ventures, eight project sites and three industrial partnerships covering metros, locomotives, and EMUs. It has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and more than 1 500 employees.
