HUNGARY: The third track on the 500 m bridge over the River Danube on the Southern Rail Link in Budapest has been commissioned for regular operation.
This strategic section of line carries 90% of traffic between the eastern and western regions of the country, including three TEN-T corridors, with 100 freight and up to 150 passenger trains passing over the bridge per day.
The bridge was built in 1877. A decision to modernise it was made in 2015 and construction started in 2019, with the first two phases of the renovation work being completed in 2021.
