THAILAND: Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand has signed four contracts for the construction of the northern extension of the BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line from Mo Chit to Ku Kot.

Italian-Thai Development signed a 15·3bn baht contract for civil works on the 12 km Mo Chit – Saphan Mai section.

A joint venture of Unique Engineering & Construction, Sinohydro Corp and China Harbour Engineering Co is to undertake work on the 7·5 km Saphan Mai – Ku Kot section under a 6·7bn baht agreement.

Two contracts were signed with a joint venture of Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction and AS Associate Engineering (1964) Ltd. A 4bn baht works package covers the depot and a park-and-ride site, and a 2·8bn baht contract was awarded for design and construction of the track.

Construction of the 16-station extension is due to start in June, with completion scheduled for 2020.
