ARGENTINA: Metro de Madrid announced on July 29 that it has sold 73 metro cars to Buenos Aires metro authority SBASE for €28m. The contract includes an additional €4·6m for spare parts and technical assistance. This is the third time that Metro de Madrid has sold cars to Argentina.

The first of the CAF-built Series 6000 cars are due to arrive in late 2013. The cars have been in service on Madrid Line 9 since 1998, and are intended to run on Line B in Buenos Aires. The modification programme for operation in Buenos Aires will involve conversion from 1 445 mm to 1 435 mm gauge, as well as the replacement of signalling and radio communication equipment.
