CHINA: The YCSR joint venture of engine manufacturer Yuchai and rolling stock supplier CSR has appointed UK consultancy Ricardo to assist with upgrading its 240 mm cylinder bore engine design to offer 'internationally competitive' standards of performance, fuel economy and durability, and compliance with UIC Stage III/EU Stage IIIA emissions standards.
The engines are currently used in locomotives, but the project aims to meet requirements for marine and off-highway applications as well.
'This locomotive engine upgrade contract awarded by YCSR is a further demonstration of Ricardo's growing presence both in the Chinese market and the international railway rolling stock sector', said Gary Tan, President of Ricardo Asia. 'This programme is to be carried out to an extremely tight timescale and to the latest international emissions regulations applicable across multiple sectors. It will also deliver an extremely fuel-efficient product that serves YCSR's ambitious development strategy.'
