Toyota Motor Corp and East Japan Railway have agreed to work together to develop hydrogen fuel cell technology for trains and cars. This could include establishing hydrogen fuelling stations on land owned by JR East and introducing fuel-cell powered road and rail vehicles.

Czech signalling supplier AŽD Praha has bought Choceň-based company Starmon as a defensive tool against the planned Siemens-Alstom merger. Starmon is a long-standing subcontractor for projects carried out by AŽD, producing electronic interlockings and passenger information systems.
Trainline now offers Russian Railways tickets, through a partnership with Real Russia which is a licensed ticketing agency for RZD outside Russia. The independent ticket retailer said it now works with more than 200 rail and coach operators in 44 countries.
Global engineering company Dywidag-Systems International has acquired UK-based Datum Group, which provides monitoring services to the rail, mining and construction sectors. This ‘will enable Datum to expand and grow to meet the vast opportunities presented to the company by High Speed 2 and other major projects‘, said Datum founder and CEO Rory O’Rourke.
Ingeteam has acquired a plant in the Basque region of Spain for the manufacture of electronic power and control equipment for rail and other sectors. It has a manufacturing floor space of 5 500 m2 and a further 1 000 m2 of office space. Production is expected to start in January 2019 with around 50 employees.

The first three bodyshells for Class 195 DMUs to be assembled for Northern at CAF’s new UK factory have been delivered to the site at Newport in South Wales. CAF has invested £30m in the factory, and has received significant grant support from the Welsh Government’s Inward Investment Programme.
