LokoTech Service has opened a 3∙4bn rouble workshop at the Chita locomotive depot, creating 400 jobs and increasing repair capacity from 200 to 500 locomotives per year.
Alstom is to expand its Santa Perpètua de Mogoda factory near Barcelona, following the signing on July 26 or a previously-announced €1∙45bn contract to supply RENFE with 152 high-capacity suburban EMUs and provide 15 years of maintenance and spare parts. Alstom plans to take on 500 new workers at the plant, a 50% increase, with a further 1 000 indirect jobs expected. There will be new welding, painting and dynamic testing facilities, and a 3D printing centre is to be developed.
Leasing company Beacon has formed Beacon Rail Finance Iberia, to be chaired by Jesús de la Torre Monguió. ‘Beacon is delighted to expand its operational and strategic footprint into Spain and Portugal to support existing customers at a local level, as well as best placing Beacon for future opportunities’, said CEO Adam Cunliffe. ‘Beacon can provide direct management of its rolling stock through dry lease or full service offer, with life-cycle management to ensure that rolling stock is available and reliable.’
Mitsubishi Electric Corp Director, Representative Executive Officer, President & CEO Takeshi Sugiyama resigned with effect from July 28. This follows the discovery of a range of quality-control issues relating to rolling stock HVAC and issues relating to labour and ‘information leakage through unauthorised access’.
Michael Keroullé was appointed President of Alstom’s Americas Region with effect from July 1. He joined Alstom following the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation, and has held several global leadership roles at GE, Alstom Power and Lurgi.
Neil McNicholas has been appointed as Managing Director of Unipart Rail. He has more than 35 years of rail experience and his executive roles have included spells as Managing Director at Freightliner and Direct Rail Services.
