RUSSIA: Transpnevmatika has begun the series production of disc brake systems for use on Transmashholding’s Ivolga 3 electric multiple-units and the newly launched ES104 Vostok EMU.
The ES104 is a domestic design developed as an alternative to the Lastochka EMUs derived from the Siemens Desiro range, after the German company pulled out of the Russian market following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
More than 80% of the brake components for both EMU types are being manufactured in-house by Transpnevmatika in the Nizhny Novgorod region, with the remainder being sourced from other domestic suppliers.
Transpnevmatika has invested 572m roubles in expanding its domestic production, of which 199m roubles was provided as soft loans from the federal Industrial Development Fund and 30m roubles from the region’s Industrial Development & Venture Investment Fund.
Production volumes will be enough to equip up to 180 EMU cars per years.
‘We are now working on a disc brake system for the Sapsan high speed train’, CEO Vladimir Batenkov added.
