SOUTH AFRICA: Alstom has acquired TMH Africa’s bodyshell manufacturing activities, which produced bodies for Traxx electric locomotives ordered by Transnet before filing for business rescue.
Alstom said the acquisition announced on September 13 would protect 105 jobs and retain local expertise.
‘We are pleased to diversify our manufacturing capability and continue to offer great value to our customers’, said Bernard Peille, Managing Director of Alstom Southern Africa.
‘Retaining the skills and knowledge to produce locomotive bodyshells locally is in-line with our long-term growth strategy to introduce much needed state-of-the-art freight solutions to the rest of the southern Africa market.’
