NEW ZEALAND: Turner & Townsend has been appointed to provide cost management advisory services for the NZ$4·4bn City Rail Link project in Auckland.
Last month project promoter CRL Ltd named the Link Alliance of Vinci Construction Grands Projets, Downer, Soletanche Bachy International, WSP Opus, AECOM New Zealand and Tonkin + Taylor as preferred bidder for the main works package covering the twin-bore tunnels and three stations. However, CRL Ltd said the anticipated overall cost of the project had risen to NZ$4·4bn from the NZ$3·4bn estimate agreed in 2014, as a result of changes to the scope of the project and competitive pressures in the wider construction market.
Announcing the contract win on May 20, Ross Dunkerley, Regional Director for Turner & Townsend New Zealand, said the project ‘represents an exciting opportunity for us as our Auckland office continues to grow’. He said the company would be ‘applying both local and international best practice expertise to ensure it is a legacy project for New Zealand.’
