Formed by merger of the Meppen--Haselünner Eisenbahn and the Hümmlinger Kreisbahn (Lathen--Werlte), which are not physically connected. Freight trains run between Meppen and Essen, and Meppen--Lathen--Werlte. In 2001, took over DB's Ocholt--Sedelsberg line, running freight trains Oldenburg--Ocholt--Sedelsberg. Also operates freight service over other DB lines.
