Plans for a 22·2 km two-line tramway are under review, following cancellation of the turnkey contract with VLT Cuiabá consortium (which comprised CAF Brasil, CR Almeida and Santa Bárbara). It was due to open for the 2014 FIFA World Cup but construction has stalled.
