NETHERLANDS: The province of Zuid-Holland has awarded NS Reizigers and Abellio Rail NRW GmbH a contract to operate passenger services on the 18 km Gouda – Alphen aan den Rijn route. Worth €3m a year, the contract is due to commence on December 11 2016 and will run for a term of 15 years.
With a fleet of six new trainsets, NS and Abellio will operate services every 15 min on weekdays, calling at the new stations of Boskoop Snijdelwijk and Waddinxveen-Zuid. The electrified route is currently operated by NS, with trains running every 30 min.
