ITALY: Messina Mayor Cateno De Luca announced on September 15 that the city’s tram line would close by June 2019.
De Luca, in power since June, cited loss-making as the reason for closure of the line, which was inaugurated in 2003. He intends to replace the route with buses. Ridership on the tramway is currently around 10 000 passengers a day.
