SINGAPORE: The final driverless trainset for the Downtown Line has been completed at Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Co’s factory in Changchun in China. Deliveries of all 92 three-car sets are expected to be completed by the middle of the year.
Land Transport Authority placed an initial order for 73 Movia trainsets in 2008 from a joint venture of Bombardier Transportation and Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Co. Subsequent options brought the total order to 92 sets.
Eight trainsets were put into service with the opening of the 4·3 km first phase of the Downtown Line in December 2013, with a further 37 going into operation when the second phase opened two years later. The third and final phase is due to open next year, bringing the underground line to 42 km in length.
