TEM-KZ diesel shunting locomotive for Kazakhstan.

KAZAKHSTAN: The first TEM-KZ shunting locomotive assembled by Kamkor Locomotive's Shu repair plant using components supplied by CSR Ziyang was unveiled last month.

National railway KTZ and CSR signed a strategic partnership agreement in May 2012, and 14 Kamkor staff travelled to China for training.

A locomotive production joint venture is to be formed by Kamkor and CSR, with capacity expected to reach 50 locomotives/year by 2016 with further designs to be offered to KTZ and industrial operators.

The first locomotive has 5% Kazakh content, including radio and safety equipment, but domestic content is expected to be increased to 51%.

  • The Shu plant has also established a workshop for maintaining Plasser & Theurer tampers.
