UKRAINE: The Lithuanian national railway’s freight business LTG Cargo has established a Ukrainian subsidiary in support of its international development strategy.
LTG Cargo Ukraine will initially offer rolling stock leasing, freight forwarding and other transport services, with the longer term objective of operating international trains to and from the country.
LTG Cargo pointed out that freight traffic is in Ukraine is around 300 million tonnes/year, six times more than in Lithuania.
‘Our new line of business is a planned strategic step for international development in central and eastern Europe, with which we aim to expand the range of activities and increase competitiveness in the region’, said LTG Cargo CEO Egidijus Lazauskas on January 11.
‘We believe that by offering modern and reliable freight transport services by rail, we can become an essential link between Lithuanian and Ukrainian businesses and thus promote economic co-operation between the two countries.
‘We also see opportunities to contribute to the development of the railway and the European Green Course in Ukraine, where the volume of transported freight is one of the largest in the region.’
The creation of LTG Cargo Ukraine follows the establishment last year of Polish subsidiary LTG Cargo Polska.
