INTERNATIONAL: Italian national freight operator Mercitalia Rail and the United Transport & Logistics joint venture of the national railways of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop integrated container services between China and Europe.
UTLC would provide logistics services between China and Europe on the Dostyk/ Korgas – Brest/Kaliningrad corridor, with Mercitalia Rail providing rail transport within the EU.
‘Together with Mercitalia Rail, we can offer cargo owners not only a well-organised delivery of goods along the entire route from China to Europe and back, but also new transport products in the near future’, said UTLC President Alexey Grom after the memorandum was signed in Milano on March 29.
Mercitalia Rail CEO Gian Paolo Gotelli said working with UTLC would ‘allow us to enter the rapidly-growing market of Eurasian freight’, which ‘fits perfectly into our business plans mostly focused on the international market.’
