POLAND: Hamburger Hafen & Logistik’s intermodal freight business Metrans has acquired CL Europort and its Malaszewicze terminal, which is a hub for eastern European and Eurasian rail freight at the break of gauge on the border with Belarus.
‘Malaszewicze represents a bridge between the EU member states, Russia and even China’, said Peter Kiss, Chair of the Metrans executive board, on January 6.
Kiss said a large proportion of rail traffic between Europe and China already passes through Malaszewicze, and Metrans wants to grow this further through co-operation with Eurotrans, which provides operating services at the border and will provide capacity enabling Metrans to offer rail services east from Brest.
