On August 28 Container Corp of India celebrated the introduction of containers fitted with an electronic cargo tracking system on the route from Visakhapatnam Port to the container terminal at Birgunj in Nepal.

Iran’s Minister of Roads & Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi and Afghanistan’s Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation Muhammad Hamid Tahmasi met in Tehran in August to discuss cross-border road and future rail freight services. Akhoundi said construction of the third stage of the Khaf – Herat rail link had reached Jono in Afghanistan, and Iran was waiting for Afghanistan’s decision to build the fourth phase from Jono to Herat.
