Slag carrier

Ukrainian company Energomashspetsstal has produced the first of five molten slag carriers for ArcelorMittal’s Temirtau steel plant in Kazakhstan. The 50 tonne wagon has a capacity of 16 m3 and an electric tipping mechanism.

TMH Bryansk TEM18DM diesel shunting locomotive

TMH Industrial Solutions has delivered seven TMH Bryansk TEM18DM diesel shunting locomotives to Severstal’s Cherepovets Steel Mill, and one to the Karelsky Okatysh iron ore mining complex. The locomotives for the mill are equipped with a temperature-based automatic start-stop system to maintain operating performance in winter.

Sinara Transport Machines has delivered four TEM14 diesel shunting locomotives to Kazakh freight operator SilkwayTransit for use at the Dostyk/Alashankou border crossing with China.

ACS Group had sold its Continental Rail freight subsidiary to shipping and logistics company CMA CGM for €19·9m. Madrid-based Continental Rail was founded in May 2000, received a freight operating licence in October 2005, and ran its first container train between the Coslada dry port in Madrid and València on February 15 2007.

Indian Railways has operated its first international Oxygen Express service, delivering 200 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen in 10 containers to Bangladesh for use during the coronavirus pandemic. Domestic Oxygen Express services were launched on April 24, and 480 trains had delivered 36 841 tonnes of liquid oxygen to hospitals by the end of July.

Detinkin-RUS

Alexander Baskakov stepped down as director of Rail Cargo Logistics-RUS on July 30, with Andrey Detinkin now in sole leadership. ‘Rail Cargo Logistics-RUS will continue the course towards the development of transit and export container transport’, said Detinkin. Plans include a container train from Milano to the Bely Rast terminal near Moscow, and an increase in the number of trains from Xi’an to Budapest.

Freight shipments by Azerbaijan’s ADY Express on the Baku – Tbilisi – Kars line totalled 108 534 tonnes in the first half of this year, up 117% on H1 2020. The bulk of the cargo originated in Russia including 99 244 tonnes of steel coil from Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant. Since the BTK line was commissioned in September 2017, ADY Express has transported a total of 185 319 tonnes on the route.

Turkish logistics association UTIKAD has signed a memorandum of co-operation aimed at developing an international rail and multimodal corridor linking Turkey, Ukraine, Lithuania and Scandinavia. Other signatories include LTG Cargo Ukraine, Ukrainian Railways, Liski Transport Service Centre, Ukrferry and FerryPlus.
