Impression of Siemens Mobility Mireo Plus H hydrogen train for NEB's Heidekrautbahn

GERMANY: KfW IPEX-Bank has implemented a €60m tailored leasing structure developed with Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing to finance Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn’s order for seven Siemens Mobility Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains for use on Heidekrautbahn services.

The financing agreement signed on November 9 has a term of 25 years from delivery of the trains, which are scheduled to enter service from 2024.

DAL Managing Director Kai Eberhard said it was ‘one of the first leasing solutions for hydrogen trains in Germany’, and combined the hydrogen as ‘technology of the future’ with the requirements of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport authority and development funding from the federal government and the Land of Brandenburg.

‘The development of innovative drive concepts and the acquisition of appropriately equipped fleets is also forward-looking from the perspective of the financing banks’, said Andreas Ufer, Managing Director of KfW IPEX-Bank. ‘With our financing, we are once again underlining our commitment to the transformation of rail traffic in Germany.’
