CZECH REPUBLIC: Infrastructure manager SŽ has launched a long-planned modernisation of a section of Corridor 1 from Brno northwards along the River Svitava to Blansko.
The work will require a complete closure of the double-track electrified main line for one year from December 12. Local trains will be replaced by buses and long-distance passenger and freight trains diverted over the Brno – Havlíčkův Brod – Kutná Hora – Kolín route.
Work on the 9·4 km Brno Maloměřice – Adamov section is being carried out by Subterra, Strabag Rail and EŽ Praha at a cost of KC2·4bn, while a consortium of OHL ŽS, Firesta-Fišer and Tramo Rail has been awarded a KC2·62bn contract covering the 6·7 km Adamov – Blansko section.
The project will included upgrading of track, 25 kV 50 Hz overhead and signalling, rehabilitation of bridges, culverts and nine tunnels, and remediation works on earthworks and retaining walls in the river valley. Adamov station is to be fully remodelled, and the intermediate stations modernised.
The project is being co-funded from the EU’s CEF Blending programme, with completion anticipated by June 2023.
