UK: A joint venture of Morgan Sindall and BeMo Tunnelling has been awarded a £20m contract to design and build a workshop for London Underground’s Train Modification Unit.
The facility at the Acton Works site in west London will undertake rolling stock refurbishment projects, starting with the Central Line fleet which is to be upgraded in 2019-22.
The 18-month construction contract was awarded following a ‘mini-competition’ within London Underground’s Civils & Tunnelling Works framework. It covers the provision of a 160 m long building housing four tracks with inspection pits, an accommodation block with welfare and office facilities for 100 staff, and the installation of track including connections to the existing network.
BakerHicks will work with the joint venture on the design.
