SWITZERLAND: On behalf of the Swiss Conferderation, SBB has awarded contracts for planning work on the proposed deep-level through station in Luzern and the connecting approach routes.
Design of the four-track underground station beneath the existing terminus is to be undertaken by the LUx consortium. This is led by AFRY Switzerland (formerly Pöyry) and includes Dürig Architekten, Büro B+S for civil and structural engineering and Büro Lombardi.
The Hombrig planning consortium, bringing together Aegerter & Bosshardt, Locher Ingenieure and Ramboll, has been awarded the contract for development of the three-track tunnel under the Vierwaldstättersee to rejoin the existing Luzern – Zug – Zürich main line near Ebikon. The TransLu planning consortium of Gähler und Partner, ILF Beratende Ingenieure and dsp Ingenieure will work on the Neustadt tunnel running under the present station throat to join the Olten and Basel line near Gütsch.
As part of the programme, SBB is also planning a new rolling stock stabling facility in Dierikon, north of Ebikon close to an existing motorway feeder road.
The planning and design work is due to be completed by the end of 2022, with the SFr100m cost being covered by the federal government. A final decision on the financing of the construction phase is not expected to be taken until 2026, with the new station expected to open around 2035.
