AUSTRALIA: The Sunshine Systems Alliance consortium of AECOM, KBR, Alstom, John Holland, CPB Contractors, Metro Trains Melbourne, V/Line and Rail Projects Victoria has been selected as preferred bidder to undertake works around Sunshine and Albion stations as part of the Melbourne Airport Rail scheme.
The contract scope includes an accessible second pedestrian concourse and forecourt area at Sunshine station, a new forecourt and car park improvements at Albion, construction of a double-track flyover at Albion to separate airport trains from suburban and regional services, and relocation and implementation of signalling, control, communication supervision and traction power systems.
The Airport Rail link is intended to deliver a journey time of 30 min between central Melbourne and Tullemarine airport, with direct connections from more than 30 suburban stations via the cross-city Metro Tunnel which is currently under construction.
