USA: Orange County Transportation Authority has awarded Walsh Construction Co a $220·5m contract to build the OC Streetcar line.
Construction of the 6·7 km route between Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center and Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove is due to begin later this year for opening in 2021.
The total project cost is estimated at $407m and is being funded through federal and state funding, as well as a local 0·5% sales tax. The Federal Transit Administration is considering a full funding grant agreement.
Siemens is supplying eight streetcars, of which two will be used as spares. The rolling stock framework contract includes options for up to 10 more.
