PHILIPPINES: The Department of Transportation has awarded Acciona the South Commuter Railway project Lot 2 contract.
The €480m contract involves the construction of 7·9 route-km of elevated track in the Manila area including España, Santa Mesa and Paco stations.
The 54·6 km South Commuter Railway with 18 stations will connect the capital with Calamba (Laguna). It forms the southern part of the 147 km North–South Commuter Railway which will link New Clark City with Calambá via the centre of Manila.
The project is being co-financed by Japan International Co-operation Agency and the Asian Development Bank.
Limited passenger services are scheduled to begin in 2025, with full operation by 2028.
