RUSSIA: Stroyproekt Engineering Group has been awarded a contract to design the planned Kuragino – Kyzyl – Elegest line which would link the Republic of Tyva to the rail network.
Design and survey works are to be August 2021 at cost of 5·5bn roubles.
The proposed 412 km single-track alignment would branch from the Abakan – Tayshet line at Kuragino, 104 km east of Abakan. It would include eight tunnels and 127 bridges and viaducts with a combined length of 16 km, including the 2·8 km Uyukskiy tunnel.
The project forms part of a comprehensive infrastructure plan to be implemented by mining concession holder Tuva Energy Industrial Corp to connect the Elegest coalfield with the Trans-Siberian main line.
The railway is to be built under the 30-year concession agreement between federal rail agency Roszheldor and TEIC Kyzyl-Kuragino, a special-purpose subsidiary of TEIC which would be the line’s main customer.
Traffic is estimated at 15 million tonnes/year, to be carried on 19 trains each way per day.
