SWITZERLAND: Work to double-track the 3 km Uznach – Schmerikon section of the Ziegelbrücke – Rapperswil line southeast of Zürich was launched with a groundbreaking ceremony on August 30.
The SFr56m project financed by the federal government is scheduled to be completed in December 2023. It will enable the operation of trains at 30 min intervals, with reduced journey times and additional capacity.
Level crossings and bridges will be renewed as part of the project, a new platform built at Uznach station and the signalling between Uznach and Rapperswil modernised to support shorter headways.
Access to trains will be step-free, and car and bicycle parking facilities expanded.
