EGYPT: Kontron Transportation has been awarded a turnkey contract to supply GSM-R for the network of three electrified lines to be developed by a consortium led by Siemens Mobility.
Kontron Transportation said it would supply ‘the most advanced railway radio communication technology’, fully compliant with UIC standards and equipped for a smooth transition from GSM-R to the future FRMCS standard.
The three planned lines totalling 1 800 km would link Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea with Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean, Cairo with Aswan to the south along the River Nile, and Luxor with Hurghada and Safaga on the Red Sea coast.
‘Kontron Transportation’s expertise in mission critical communications will support the project from the beginning and accompany it for the next years’, said COO Bernd Eder on January 10.
