CANADA: The Acciona-Ghella consortium which is to design and build Vancouver’s Broadway Subway has awarded Thales a contract to supply SelTrac CBTC signalling.
The Broadway Subway running 5·7 km from VCC-Clark west to Arbutus Street forms a six-station extension of the existing SkyTrain Millennium Line, which is already equipped with Thales CBTC. Construction is expected to start this year, for opening in 2025.
Announcing the contract on September 23, Thales said its extensive knowledge of the Vancouver network would help to minimise integration and project delivery time risks. Its urban rail signalling competence centre at Burnaby in British Columbia will provide specialised expertise and local experience.
