USA: Virgin Trains USA has awarded Wabtec contracts worth $120m for the implementation of Positive Train Control on its route in Florida.
In the first phase, Wabtec will install its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System PTC safety overlay on the 110 km Brightline corridor between Miami and West Palm Beach. This will include a back-office system and onboard equipment for a total of 90 locomotives used by the passenger business and by freight operator Florida East Coast Railway.
I-ETMS continuously calculates warning and braking curves based on train and route information including speed, location, movement authority, speed restrictions and work zones.
Phase two covers the installation of I-ETMS along the 275 km route from West Palm Beach to Orlando Airport, which combines a mix of upgraded FEC freight tracks and a new branch now under construction. Wabtec will undertake the complete design, installation, system integration, project management and train control implementation process.
It will also provide signal design and implementation services for phase two under a separate contract.
