INDIA: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India has awarded a consortium of Japanese firm Sojitz Corp and local partner Larsen & Toubro a ¥50bn contract to supply and install 2 x 25 kV 50 Hz electrification equipment on the 915 km Rewari – Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
The 1 483 km Western DFC linking Delhi and Mumbai is being developed using a Japanese Official Development Assistance loan which requires the uses of Japanese technologies. As a result, Japanese products account for around 40% of the order, including cables and equipment for the 16 substations on the section.
The contract announced on November 19 is the second for Sojitz and L&T, following a 2013 order covering civil engineering and track works on the 626 km Rewari – Iqbalgarh section of the Western DFC.
Sojitz said it has put India at the core of its railway business, and ‘plans to take a proactive stance’ towards future urban and high speed rail projects in the country.
