INDIA: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India has awarded a consortium of L&T Construction and Japan’s Sojitz Corp a 42-month design and build contract worth Rs12·1bn covering the electrification of the 422 km Vadodara – Jawaharlal Nehru Port section of the 1 490 km Western DFC between Delhi and Mumbai.
This follows from a similar contract covering the 915 km Rewari – Vadodara section which was awarded to the same consortium in late 2014.
Announcing the latest contract on January 22, L&T said the consortium would supply 897 track-km of 2 x 25 kV 50 Hz overhead electrification suitable for double-stack container trains, with seven traction substations, 40 switching stations, SCADA systems at 12 stations and an operational control centre.
The project is being funded by Japan International Co-operation Agency, and the traction power transformers, autotransformers and copper conductors will be imported from Japan.
