INNOTRANS: The first purpose-designed rail diesel engine to meet the new European Stage V emissions standards was formally unveiled by Voith and Liebherr at InnoTrans on September 19.

Rated at between 400 and 480 kW at 2 100 rev/min, the Voith Rail Engine offers a maximum torque of 2 800 Nm. The six-cylinder engine is available in both vertical and horizontal versions, the latter optimised for modular applications in Voith Railpack underfloor traction packages with electric, hydraulic or mechanical drives. It can also be used with Voith’s new DHM transmission, as well as the latest Railpack DX.
