INNOTRANS: Austrian track machine manufacturer Plasser & Theurer will be focusing on digitalisation, automation and environmental issues at InnoTrans 2022, presenting a range of innovations to help increase infrastructure capacity through the smarter use of technology.
In the outdoor area, Plasser will be displaying its Unimat 09-4x4/4S Dynamic E³ universal tamping machine for DB Bahnbau Gruppe.
This is DB Bahnbau’s first hybrid maintenance machine using the E³ technology, aimed at reducing the railway’s environmental footprint. The machine has also been designed to address a range of current issues around occupational safety, working in urban areas and minimising the use of resources.
The hybrid machine can operate fully electrically in both running and working modes, with only a few linear movements still requiring hydraulic actuation. According to the manufacturer, the greater use of electric drives will reduce hydraulic oil consumption by 80%. When operating in all-electric mode, the E³ generates significantly less noise than a conventional diesel tamping machine, making it more acceptable for lineside residents when undertaking maintenance at night.
