POLAND: City transport authority MPK Kraków marked the completion of the conversion of ex-Wien Line U6 light rail vehicles into street-running trams on July 15.

MPK Kraków’s workshops converted the E6 motor cars and C6 trailers into 40 three-section EU8N trams. The middle section supplied by Autosan is low-floor, with an entrance height of 290 mm above the rail. The motor cars have been converted for unidirectional operation. The 26·6 m long trams have been fitted with new seats, ticket vending machines, an audiovisual passenger information system and CCTV.

In July 2010 the first rebuilt unit became the first air-conditioned tram to operate in Kraków. The initial plan to convert 25 was subsequently extended. The rebuilt trams mainly serve routes 2, 5 and 20.
