UKRAINE: Kyiv metro’s rolling stock repair workshop has rolled out an initial set of five Type 81-717/714 cars which have undergone a 35m hryvnia mid-life modernisation.
The refurbishment of the vehicles dating from the late 1980s and early 1990s includes interior repairs, alterations to the driver’s cab consoles, and new fronts for the motor cars. There are new supporting structures for the bodies, and plastic body elements have been fitted.
The work is intended to extend the cars’ service life by at least 22 years. Kyiv Metro now plans to undertake work on a further 15 vehicles, which would be funded from its own resources.
